I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for the support over the last few months.
It was just a few short years ago that the idea of the Phoenix Summit Challenge came to fruition - and I could never have imagined the phenomenal growth it has seen since the inaugural year in 2005. I cannot begin to explain the depth of my appreciation for the hiking community that embraced this unique concept, and created a family around it. I have so many fond memories of sore legs and smiles; personal stories of triumph; blood, sweat, and tears (literally); and so many more!
It is with deep regret that I send you this current update on the status of the Phoenix Summit Challenge in 2007. Unfortunately, the City has continued efforts to seize control and ownership of the Phoenix Summit Challenge. As many of you are aware, Phoenix Parks are promoting a version of the PSC - a stolen version of the Phoenix Summit Challenge - with registration beginning this Saturday. I can understand the want to participate in this event, but I cannot in good faith condone their actions surrounding the Phoenix Summit Challenge.
With the event quickly approaching and the many excited inquiries I receive each day, I have decided to step away from organizational efforts for the 2007 Phoenix Summit Challenge. The quality and uniqueness that you have experienced or have heard of, I am afraid, will be compromised as the struggles continue and the date draws near. I will continue, however, make all attempts to reclaim and bring back the integrity and spirit of the true Phoenix Summit Challenge in 2008.
